Some of our institutional partners get mentors to determine their own hourly session fees. If you are attending an institution that offers an open-market mentoring program (for example, class-specific tutoring), this will most likely be the case.

Step by Step Process

As a mentor, to set or change your hourly session fee for a particular subprogram, open up its program card. To do so:

  • Navigate to Programs using the top menu and click into the relevant one. The subprograms you have joined will appear on the right-hand side of your screen under a subheading. Next to the name of each one is a black notepad icon, which you can see in the image below.
  • Click the notepad icon, and a pop-up window will appear.
  • After setting the grade you received for the class, click ‘Continue’ and you will then be able to choose your hourly session fee using the sliding scale.
  • Click ‘Update’ once you are finished.

It is important to maintain an hourly session fee that is stable for a period of time, as this provides your mentees with a better and more consistent experience. If you are continually changing your hourly session fee, mentees may turn away and seek assistance from someone whose fees are more reliable. This is not to say you have to work for the same wage forever: once you feel like your skills have developed considerably, feel free to change your hourly session fee to reflect this.
